Casa Azul takes its name from the water it sits on — the turquoise that surrounds Isla Mujeres, carried into the house itself through tiled accents that run to the edge of the pool. Every one of its six bedrooms faces the ocean, and the main living space opens in full to a shared pool terrace and a dock that reaches out into the shallows.

The house is arranged across two levels, connected by an elevator that makes both floors equally easy to reach — useful for multi-generational groups, or anyone who'd rather not manage the stairs. Upstairs, a primary suite and two ocean-view doubles look out over the water; downstairs, a second king suite and two further doubles open onto their own stretch of shared and private outdoor space. A flexible seventh room off the main living area works equally well as an additional bedroom, a massage room, or a private office. Blue runs through the interiors in the same register as the sea outside — a palette chosen, in the architect's words, for calm and a sense of space rather than for effect.

A full service team runs the property day to day: an executive chef and cook, a dedicated server and bartender, and security around the clock, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner built into every stay. Kayaks, paddleboards, and bicycles are on hand for guests who want to move, and a daytime beach assistant keeps the sand and water side of things running without being asked.

Isla Mujeres itself sits a short ferry ride from Cancún — golf carts outnumber cars, the water stays calm along the island's leeward coast, and Casa Azul's private dock puts snorkeling and open-water excursions within easy reach.

Isla Mujeres · Riviera Maya

A short ferry ride off Cancún, Isla Mujeres stands apart from the rest of the Mexican Caribbean. Its western shore faces the calm, shallow Bahía de Mujeres rather than the open sea. That gives the island two things the mainland coast rarely offers: the sun setting over the water, and beaches that sargassum seldom reaches, in any season.

The water is why people come. It's pale turquoise over white sand, clear to the bottom, and shallow enough to wade a long way out. Guests snorkel the reefs at El Garrafón and Punta Sur, dive the underwater sculptures of MUSA, and swim with whale sharks between June and September. Or they take a boat north to the bird sanctuary on Isla Contoy. Evenings end on the terrace, with the sun going down behind the Cancún skyline.

The island is seven kilometres long and moves at the pace of a golf cart. The town is small, walkable, and easygoing, with fresh seafood and good places for a drink at sundown. The passenger ferry from Puerto Juárez takes about 20 minutes, and Cancún airport is around 40 minutes from the terminal. It's an island that feels removed from the mainland but is simple to reach.
