Do I need a rental car in Tulum?
For a pure villa stay, no. The concierge handles transport — airport transfers, dinner rides, day trips — and it's usually more relaxed than driving yourself. If you plan to explore the Yucatán extensively or prefer independence, we can arrange a rental delivered to the villa.
Is the tap water safe?
No. Stick to bottled or filtered water for drinking and brushing teeth. Every villa in our portfolio provides filtered water systems and a constant supply of bottled water. Ice at villas is made from filtered water. At restaurants, purified ice is standard but ask if in doubt.
What currency should I bring?
US dollars and pesos both work, but pesos give you a better rate in most places. ATMs are widely available and dispense pesos at market rate. Tipping: 15–20% at restaurants, 10–15% for drivers, a generous amount for villa staff at end of stay (the concierge can advise on amounts).
What's the best airport for Tulum?
Tulum International (TQO) opened in late 2023 and is now the closest, about 20 minutes from the beach zone. Cancun (CUN) still has more flight options and is about 1 hour 45 minutes by private transfer. We coordinate transport from either.
Do I need travel insurance?
Recommended, especially if traveling during hurricane season (June–November) or on a tight timeline. Private medical care is excellent in Tulum and Playa del Carmen but not inexpensive without insurance. We can suggest reputable providers through the concierge if you don't already have a policy.
